100th Post… And Free Crochet Pinafore Pattern

It is now officially the 100th Crochet Buddies Blog post. So much has happened since November 2016 and now. To start with, we’ve reached so many posts in a few short months (May 2017 being the start of frequent blogging). Some part of me wants to go back and reread several of Ye Olde Posts… another part wants to focus more on the posts to come.

It’s been over a month since the last post, so as a thank you to those who have been waiting, here is the free pattern I promised long ago.

To celebrate this moment, I’m going to share a newly-created pattern for 10″ Bamboletta Little Buddy dolls and Waldorf dolls with similar measurements. Feel free to share the link to this pattern and let others know about it, though I ask that you acknowledge and respect my work as the original pattern creator. (Note: I do not take credit for Ruby, the doll you see in the photos, or her squirrel dress and shoes. Both were made by Bamboletta.) Also, if you would like to sell items made from this pattern, please let me know before doing so.

If you’ve finished the pattern and would like to share photos, or if there are parts of the instructions that could be clarified more, please leave a comment below.

Enjoy!

Crochet Pinafore Pattern For 10” Dolls

Fits a Bamboletta Little Buddy doll. Depending on yarn tension, the finished pinafore may also fit a Götz Just Like Me doll (though this hypothesis has yet to be tested). The armholes are meant to be large, to allow room for a dress or shirt to fit underneath.

Materials

– Flinders 4 Seasons cotton 8ply, two balls for different colors (optional)

– Size F/3.75 mm crochet hook

Abbreviations

Ch = chain

Sc = single crochet

Hdc = half double crochet

Dc = double crochet

Sl st = slip stitch

Sk = skip (x number of sts)

MC = main color

CC = contrasting color

Special stitches used

Shell stitch: *2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc* in same st.

Instructions

With MC, ch 28.

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across, ch 1, turn. (27 sts)

Row 2: *Hdc in 1, 2 hdc in next st,* repeat until end of row, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (40 sts)

Row 3: *Hdc in 2, 2 hdc in next st,* repeat until end of row, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (47 sts)

Rows 4-5: Hdc in ea st across, ch 1, turn. (47 sts)

Row 6: Hdc in 5, ch 7, sk 15 sts (left armhole), hdc in 13, ch 7, sk 15 sts (right armhole), hdc in 5. Switch to CC, ch 1, turn. (23 hdc, 14 ch sts)

Row 7: With CC, hdc in ea hdc across, and in ea ch st of armholes; switch to MC, ch 1, turn. (37 sts)

Row 8: Hdc in ea st across, ch 2, turn. (37 sts)

Rows 9-14: Dc in ea st across, ch 2, turn. At the end of Row 14, switch to CC. (37 sts)

Row 15: *sc in 1st st, sk 1, shell st in next, sk 1,* repeat to end of row, sc in last st.

Finishing touches:

From here, you can follow the pattern of Row 15 along the edges of the pinafore, until you reach the edge of the collar (where the original slip knot is). Sl st in ea ch across to other end, then continue along with the shell pattern. Sl st back in first st of Row 15. Fasten off.

You may leave the back of the pinafore open, or add buttons/snaps to the top of each shell.
