Debbie’s Empire Waist Dress

Debbie’s been asking me to make her “something new” for the holidays. With Christmas approaching, I decided to crochet an outfit for her, regardless of the color combination (running a little low on holiday-color yarn). One afternoon later, it was complete!

This pattern is my newest design – the dress is knee length with an empire waist for a classy, elegant look. (Apologies for the photo quality; we had intended to go out and photograph Debbie in a nice setting, but the weather hasn’t been cooperating.)

Debbie’s dress is made with 100% cotton yarn. The dress closes in the back with buttons – though I have yet to look for the “right” buttons that match.

I’m thinking a wide-brim hat would go with the dress very nicely. Only thing is, there’s only enough yarn of the same color for a tiny bag. Hmm. I think I’ll make Debbie a hat in lavender, then a dress to go with it, and see how that goes. 🙂

In addition, here is Debbie’s newest handbag. Debbie had specifically asked for a knitted handbag (for better scale, I think), but my knitting needles weren’t the right size. So instead I crocheted one using afghan stitch.

Here’s the front of the bag, with the flap open:

(It does also need a button, but for now I’m holding the flap in place with yarn.)

And the back:

And the complete outfit set:

If you are interested in the pattern for the dress, handbag, or both, let me know and I can make it available in the Online Store. 🙂
