Hello again! To start off today’s first in-depth post, I have some important NEWS.
To start with, I was playing around with an old knitting bag pattern on Saturday. That’s right, knitting. Because while the majority of Crochet Buddies is intended for, well, crochet, it will indefinitely involve other crafts as well. Also, there are some aspects of knitting that are just plain easier, particularly for this pattern–less quantity of yarn used than crochet, for instance.
Anyway, this knitting pattern I came up with isn’t old in the archaic sense, per se, but one I’ve been using since early 2013. Essentially the bag pattern can be expanded in stitch count to create a bigger bag (with row count being the other determining factor for size in any bag). Conversely, with a much smaller stitch count and length, it’s not dissimilar to patterns used for making fingers in a glove. (Fellow knitters out there may know what I mean by this; if not, please leave a comment below and I’ll explain further.)
Yesterday I decided to experiment with the pattern a little. I’ve used this very pattern to make phone cases that sold in the past (which, by the way, may eventually become another product for the Crochet Buddies store!). After some length altering and a few adjustments here and there, I managed to create a sleeping bag pattern that will fit pretty much any mini doll out there! (Under the general umbrella of Our Generation, AG, Götz, etc.) Told ya I was in a frantically enthusiastic craft mood lately. 😉
Wren, being the perfect new family member to test out the sleeping bag, gallantly agreed to pose in it for the photo shoot–being the very inspiration for it in the first place.
And… here it is!
The flap is crocheted, and also functions as a pillow to cushion her head.
Here’s Wren out of the sleeping bag for approx. measurement. Her boots make her height look a bit taller than the bag, but the edge of the flap covers her head and fits very well:

This sleeping bag also serves another purpose: A mini doll carry case. Doesn’t it look perfect for travel? I added a chain stitch strap for ease of carrying the bag around. Of course, there are some things the carry case doesn’t do–it’s not waterproof, for instance. 😉 But it does provide a rather stylish mode of transport for mini dolls, in my opinion. I’m so happy with how this turned out! AHH!
Now, here’s the even cooler part: without the doll, this sleeping bag ALSO functions as a normal purse! Just take the doll out, close the bag with the button and you can have it for everyday use! Huzzah!
It did cross my mind to have the flap extend over the mini doll’s head, but that modification wasn’t really efficient and didn’t look as nice. Besides, it doesn’t hurt to have your doll’s head stick out so she can see all the lovely places you take her. 🙂
Now I can’t wait to find my mini AG dolls and see how well they fit in it! Before you ask: yes, I’ll be keeping this original version, as another ‘template.’ (You can see how all these crochet prototypes fill the house very easily, hehe.) However, this brings up something very important. Because I’m so confident in this sleeping bag/carry case/everyday purse, I’m going to make more and sell them in the online store! Yes, it’s happening, and it’ll be epic!
Stick around for more information on this, coming soon!~
