For brainstorming the most suitable kind of yarn to use when making outfits for your doll(s). What's your favorite kind of material to work with?
Alright, I'm going to write some ideas on this thread to start the conversation. 🙂
For dolls in the 18" range, I like to use yarn that is somewhat thicker and more durable. Cotton is one example. Though firm (and sometimes difficult to work with), it's a good material to make outfits from, primarily if you're going to bring your dolls on numerous outings or adventures.
Acrylic is the cheapest, but not always the best. It does dry well; however, in contrast to other materials such as wool, acrylic may cause some "crochet cramps" or joint pain after a while, because of its texture. (Depends on whether the yarn is a "blend" and also contains other materials.)
Regarding wool, silk, nylon, polyester, etc., I'm going to leave that for YOU all to continue discussion. Have fun! 😀
Time to bring back crochet discussion... 🙂
Since the first time I posted this forum topic (eight years ago - wow!!), I've been gradually shrinking down the scale of doll outfits for a more realistic look. Recently I've grown very fond of fingering weight yarn (size #1), as the scale is less bulky. It's fun to xperiment with wool, cotton thread, bamboo, and even sock yarn. Each material creates a slightly different look.
Do you crochet outfits for your dolls? If so, what yarn(s) do you like to work with?
