Happy Sunday, all, and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Today is a very special day for mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers alike (and for everyone else as well!). I hope you guys are having a wonderful weekend and spending time with your loved ones. Whether you’re into big celebrations, tea parties, breakfast in bed, or taking some time to unwind and stroll through the neighborhood, Mother’s Day is a day for people to come together and appreciate the love, care and guidance moms around the world have given their kids and everyone else. Wherever you are in the world, I wish you all a peaceful, joyous and refreshing weekend with your loved ones!
If you’re looking to surprise your mom with something special and handmade, here are some crochet gift ideas to try out. If you’ve already made something (probably a bunch of somethings) already, you can keep this list to use for any other occasion. 🙂
Most patterns related to Mother’s Day in other lists will have Mother’s Day embedded in the titles, or be event-specific. To try something a little different, here are 10 uniquely fabulous free patterns that can work generally for everyday crafts, but are especially perfect for today.
- Crochet Rose Ring Tutorial by The Green Dragonfly. Lovers of the classic rose pattern will have a grand time crocheting this, particularly because it’s wearable!
- Quick Crochet Flowers by Lacy Crochet. These flowers are absolutely lovely, with both style and ease of crocheting. If you prefer to make different kinds of flowers besides roses for the occasion, give this pattern a try.
- Lovely Layers Flower by B.hooked Crochet. Adding a new level of elegance, this flower pattern creates a brilliant display of vibrant colors as a decoration and/or gift.
- Also on B.hooked Crochet is the Crocodile Stitch Flower pattern. This flower has a gorgeous three-dimensional aspect, and can be crocheted in a wide array of yarn colors and textures, with beautiful results.

- Also on Moogly, the Joyful Afghan Square. The intriguing symmetric flower pattern and texture this afghan square has is simply wonderful. It can stand alone as a decorative piece, or be attached to multiple squares for a breathtaking overall effect.
- Jessie At Home’s Heart Coasters or Appliques. A gorgeous, easy-to-make pattern that works for several occasions, and is a delightful gift for Mother’s Day.
- DIY & Crafts has an excellent list of gorgeous crochet hats perfectly suitable for Mother’s Day. The Ribbed Beanie and Broomstick Lace Hat would make particularly awesome gifts.
- Crochet Heart Coffee Cozy by Tatertots & Jello opens the creative doors for combining coffee cup accessory with adorable heart decoration. If your mom loves coffee, this is the perfect, easily crochetable surprise for her.
- Mollie Makers has an exquisite list of 40 flower-related patterns for special events. I recommend the Pretty Paper Clips Pattern (#2) to try out first so you can experiment with different sizes, colors, and even make several of them to give at a party, or adorn around the house.
I’ll be posting my own patterns very soon, so be sure to look for those!
Happy Crocheting!~
