Craftventuring, Episode 1

Why, hello again. 🙂 Everything’s so calm and peaceful now, after the Arts Festival. Most of the people who were here for the event have left. I must confess, for some reason I don’t feel that impending emptiness I’ve felt in previous years. Maybe it’s because soon, my family and I will also leave for the next adventure. There are pros and cons to traveling so much, but in any case, it’s nice to have witnessed a festival that’s lasted half a century. All in all, it was a fun, exhilarating experience. To the vendors who are on their way to the next big event: I wish you guys all the best with festival plans, travels, everything. It was wonderful meeting you all! 😀

Today, while I sort through the nigh 3,000 photos from the last week, I’m going to introduce a new series to this Blog: Craftventuring. This series will be similar to the Yarnventuring episodes, only it’s less about yarn and more about craft finds; particularly miniatures. I’ll be posting these chronologically, so there’s quite a lot to write about. Let’s begin!

Surprise, surprise… there’s my sneaker again. Just because. 😉

It all started when Mom and I rode a bus. We were in search of craft items, and were actually looking for a Target of sorts, but on the way we spotted this HUGE mall, out in the middle of almost nowhere. Naturally, we got off the bus and decided to take a look around!

Burlington was what caught our attention. There’s a Burlington in downtown Philly, but it’s barely half the size of this one. There were also other stores around, making the entire area constitute its own mall:

We entered Burlington, took an elevator up to the main floor, and were instantly shocked at the size of the store, in contrast to other places we’ve visited in the area:

To find an enormous, well-kept Burlington store, with hardly anyone around, was unbelievable.

A few seconds later, this caught my eye:

It had been randomly placed next to a suitcase, and not just any suitcase:

Based on those finds alone, Mom and I figured there would be at least a few crafty items around. Then we turned and saw this:

We did end up buying something from the store. I’ll give you a hint: it’s in the photo above. (The “answer” will be at the end of the post 😉 )

From that point onward, I had a fabulous time photographing tons of other items on various shelves:

Here’s another hint at the item we bought… it’s quite similar to these two below, but a tad more durable and slightly more “modern”:

This, right here, is one of my all-time favorite quotes. hehe

I came across this little box, which would have been a really neat miniature or doll-sized trunk… however, the lining on the inside wasn’t the most durable, so I passed on it. Nevertheless, I hope to find something like this in future:

These little Geo Frame-style greenhouses were also very intriguing…

…as were the bags of seashells:

That octopus reminds me of a little ring-ornament-thing I have around somewhere…

There was also this mini dresser, which would have been perfect for storing little miniatures and crochet doll items; but alas, quality (inside lining again). And space. Oh well!

In addition to the little drawers opening, the top opened as well, revealing a mirror:

The sides also opened, for extra compartments:

And, of course, the regular drawers:

This Burlington had so many different kinds of items for sale. The store itself was almost like a HomeGoods, with the semi-antique, semi-stylish objects for adorning a home; things you normally wouldn’t find in other stores…

…including this handy “Potato Keep’R”:

Alright, time for the big reveal. After going through the store and looking at numerous things, this is what we ended up taking home:

Yep, it’s a bicycle! The moment I saw it, I knew it would be perfect; as a prop, and for practical use. It’s meant to be a garden decoration, but I’m sure the dolls will have plenty of other ways to use it. The bike used to be $19.99, but had dropped in price to $5.99. Needless to say, I’m very pleased with this find. 🙂

And so ends the first Craftventuring episode. whew Let me know what you think, and if there are certain photos that caught your attention. 🙂 Stay tuned for more Craftventuring posts coming soon!

Bye for now!
